Taking up an area of 390 square kilometers, Amboseli is one of the smaller national parks in Kenya. However, the park’s small size makes it the perfect place to get views of massive herds of African elephants. The elephant population here is over 1,500, making it easy to catch sight of them in large numbers as they graze or seek water.

Located about 230km from Nairobi, Amboseli National Park borders Tanzania. In the backdrop, there’s Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa whose snow cap renders the park a breathtaking scenery, making it perfect for sightseeing and photography.
It’s no wonder that Amboseli is a popular safari destination for honeymooners.

Amboseli has five distinct habitats: savanna grassland, woodlands, wetlands, the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli, and open plains. These provide a home to more than 80 different animal species.

Besides the abundant elephants, you can catch sight of buffalos, lions, leopards, gazelles, hippos, giraffes, and waterbucks. The park also boasts over 600 bird species, making it a bird watcher’s paradise.
The dry season from June to October and January to February is the best time to visit Amboseli. During this time, you’ll see herds of animals gathering at swamps in search of water. Lurking in the shadows are vicious predators that must catch their next meal.
Probably the most exciting thing about Amboseli is that you can go on guided nature walks. This way, you can get up close to the wildlife and immerse yourself in the beautiful nature around.
